Adams and Company was started in 1865 to serve the stationery, magazine and book needs of the colonial community. The business grew with the town as Durban was the port to which most people going to the interior sailed and the equipment was mainly shipped through it. During the 1930’s Depression the business moved into its present city centre building, and as the city spread it opened branches.
The West Street branch now specializes in books for UNISA students and Nurses while maintaining a good general range. Those interested in local writing find unusual items there and the shop is often busy with browsers.
Adams Musgrave Centre offers a congenial environment to many general book lovers on the Durban Berea. They browse through the extensive selection and enjoy the coffee. Some also enjoy the range of kitchen wear that we sell there.
We have two shops serving students on the two Campuses of the University of Kzn. The humanities are for the most part on the old Howard College Campus while the business and science faculties are served by our shop on the newer Westville Campus.
Medibooks offers a fine range of medical books for students and for professionals and has customers ranging around the country.
Our Pietermaritzburg shop is located in the heart of the city in a beautiful historic building. It serves the varied needs of the local population and has the widest range of UNISA and Technikon books in the area, while retaining a range of general books too. The school book department looks after schools throughout the KZN interior and into the Free State, and carries a fine range of text books and teachers’ manuals.
The youngest shop in the group is the Cape Town branch. Small though it is it carries an in depth stock of the UNISA texts and looks after some of Cape Town’s reputable educational institutions.
A common thread that runs through all the shops is a desire to offer a fine service to our customers. We hope you will enjoy your web browsing and receive quick service when you order.
